DUSSELDORF
The City Where My German Ancestors Lived.
Dussel (A River) Dorf (A Village) Was once a small hamlet with it's suburbs of today also being hamlets near of further from the River Rhein. The village grew to a good size when it became a favoured place of regional Dukes & Bishops, their patronage brought prosperity and eventually Industry to the growing town and region.

MY ANCESTORS IN DUSSELDORF
|

|
My Ancestors that lived in or around Dusseldorf belong to mainly 3 family trees
- KEMMERLING ( Dusseldorf Town area )
- WIERICH ( Villages surrounding the town )
- KOENENBERG ( Vollmerswert which is now a suburb of the town )
Of others I have as yet no clue, but there are families who married into my direct line [ KEMMERLING] that came from as far afield as Holland, The Harzland, Wales, and Southern Germany.
Karl Johannes Kemmerling
From my research I have discovered that my Grandfather was a skilled worker up until the outbreak of war in 1939 when he was taken into the Pioneer Corps of the German Army. He served in Greece, The Balkans, the Eastern Front & towards the end in Germany itself. He was taken prisoners by American forces and shipped to a POW camp in Canada before being released and brought home in 1946. Due to the damage and destruction of property & documents he was unable to prove his skill after the war ended (German Authorities were always and still are very strict about documentary proof as all genealogists researching there will know).

He thus ended up working in the family business which was a Clothes shop and a Shoe shop in the area of Pempelfort & Derendorf. He was sadly killed in a Motor accident in 1972 whilst coming home for his lunchbreak.

My grt Grandfather was born in the "BILK" area of Dusseldorf, during his working life he was a factory worker, the family moved from "BILK" to Derendorf at some stage and he obtained accomodation at " Goeben Strasse #11" after he married my Grt Grandmother, they lived at this address until they passed away in the 1950s.
